I sincerely hope you enjoy browsing through my detailed pastel work - you can see my work covers a wide range of subject matter which ( not being modest ) makes me ideal for undertaking high quality commissions. I also have paintings that are for sale ( for purchase through paypal) and I can have prints and cards made of many of my works. Introduction

I am a retired veterinary surgeon who has become a pastel artist. I was introduced to pastels as a teenager by a friend of my father’s and in fact I still have remnants of my first set of pastels. I passed A level art at 16, then went on to complete a veterinary science degree - my understanding of animals allows me to add that something extra to my artwork. You can read a full interview with me on the Wonderstreet website HERE......

I work largely from photographs and, as I indicated above, welcome commissions. As you can see from my work, and from previous completed commissions, the quality is assured. You can contact me through my contact page for more details.

May 2017 - Delighted to sell "Sepia Tide" from this website to Keith in Chelmsford

 

Keith had already purchased " Cheeky Chappy " from the Art2ARts website earlier in the year and I am very pleased he wanted to buy another piece of my pastel artwork. Many thanks Keith!

This is my most recent artwork - a large piece on a 50 cm by 70 cm sheet of Art Spectrum Colourfix paper. It took 85 hours and I used Rembrandt soft pastels for the background and Derwent & Cretacolour pastel pencils for the detail. Photos taken from a visit to the Dyfi and from pixabay. April 2016 - Completed greyhound commission delivered

I was delighted with how this commission turned out, and so was Alice Fenner of the Retired Greyhound Trust, a nationwide charity for rehoming greyhounds, and based near Kingston on Thames. See more on my  blog page.....

January 2016 - I have been promoting my work on a number of artist websites

Finding ways to promote art is difficult so I have signed up to Artfinder, Artists Uncovered, Contemporary Artists, Artists and Illustrators, Painters Online, and WonderStreet in the hope that their links to Facebook and Twitter will spread the word! Fingers crossed.... 

December 2015 - I completed this commission just in time for Christmas

Cath took over 100 photographs of this lovely old greyhound cross and this was the image chosen by the owner. She was very happy with the outcome and in fact was in tears when she opened it on Christmas Day. Another satisfied owner! 

December 2015 - I sold this horse within 24 hours at Sable and Hogg in Brecon - delighted!

November 2015 - This lovely Cavalier King Charles pup completed....

I am selling this delightful picture, when completed, for £365 at Sable and Hogg in Brecon - it will also be used as an example of my high quality dog commissions.....The steps taken to complete this work are being posted on my facebook.com/pastelworkinprogress page.

With my open house during Herefordshire Art Week only 2 weeks away, I am is working hard to have new work to compliment my older pieces and this is the latest completed work. As always you can see how I completed it on my pastel work in progress page

APRIL 5th 2015 - Scheherazade completed.......

I enjoyed this one - creating the sensuality of the material draped around her face.....she is for sale so get in touch if you are interested. She is 12in by 16in and the price includes the 16in by 20in frame .....

MARCH 2015 - Finished a "step by step" of Tony's portrait on facebook...

  

This is a new project for me, after being asked by some artists to give them an idea of how I created my work. My wife Cath takes the photos and posts the work to Pastel Work in Progress This will be an ongoing process - the next " step by step" is the duckling below.....

FEBRUARY 2015 - Undertaking an interpretation of a Frank Holl painting as a commission

This is a large and detailed commission but I am enjoying the challenge. You can see me here at work with all my pastels and pastel pencils easily accessible. Don't forget that I have a new facebook page that shows how I work step by step on my detailed pastel work....... 

FEBRUARY 2015 - "Exploring the pond"

This is my latest work, available to purchase, in soft pastel and pastel pencils from a photo taken by Chris Allsebrook Size 20cm by 28cm unframed. It is my first time using pastel mat paper and I am pleased with the result. Thank you to  Eric Pouillet who was the first person I saw using this when I joined Facebook in December 2014....

FEBRUARY 2015 - Latest portrait commission completed

Both Tony ( the subject of the portrait ) and myself are very pleased with the outcome of this work. For this commission I used a mixture of pastels and pastel pencils on colour spectrum pastel paper. Final size 30cm by 40cm unframed......
