Invitation to create hedgehog artwork, to support conservation worldwide, accepted

This is certainly an difficult time for everyone, especially artists, but there are always innovative people out there finding ways to keep art alive and thriving, both online and off.

I was very pleased last week to be approached by G Henshaw from Living With Koalas website who is developing the idea of 100 artworks of 100 critically endangered fauna worldwide for an exhibition in 2021.

As G said:

"100 artworks for conservation"

100 artworks - 100 critically endangered fauna (mammals, birds, fish, frogs, reptiles...) - 100 artists from 100 countries

original artwork

medium - any

size - no larger than A1 (594mm w x 841H) for ease of transport

delivery to Australia by July 2021

artwork unframed

The concept is to auction the originals (artist to share in proceeds or can 'donate' any funds raised), we would create a book/catalogue from the images with an artist bio, produce A2 limited edition prints and use the framed No 1 limited edition print as the exhibition artwork to tour the 100 countries involved to raise awareness of threatened species and to raise funds for local conservation groups (as well as our koala food tree growing and planting programme in Australia).

We are looking for an artist to represent England and provide an artwork of a hedgehog and we would like you to be that artist. Artists can also nominate their own threatened species native to that country - we need to check that other artists aren't already producing an artwork for that species. "

What a great idea, I thought to myself, and after researching the organisation and discussing with G the finer points of the concept, I have agreed to create a pastel artwork of a hedgehog for exhibition next year.

I have to say I feel honoured to be selected for this project from the huge range of talented artists that create animal and hedgehog artworks across the UK. It seems that all the hard work of promoting my artwork, that my wife Cath is spearheading, is paying off.....

I am also delighted to say that at least 50% of any profits that are made from the auction of my original pastel hedgehog artwork and sale of the limited edition prints, will go towards the conservation efforts of hedgehog, koalas and other endangered species worldwide.....Proud to support conservation worldwide!
