A photo by Eric De Rijk ( from Dreamstime.com ) was the inspiration for this pastel painting of a nuthatch. I have sold a nuthatch ( seen here ) previously hence the reason for creating another one......
This nuthatch perching, from Eric's reference photo, was created with soft pastel for the background, and pastel pencils for the feathers and details. The paper I use is Artspectrum Colourfix. The sharpened pencils create the detail and the background is blended using polystyrene sticks to give the three dimensional effect to the completed painting.
This artwork has been much admired and is the perfect size for your wall, with the painting being 8 inch wide and 11.5 inch high - in it's white frame it's dimensions are 15 inch by 19 inch.
